The natural world

Nature – the word – is derived from the Latin word natura, or “essential qualities, innate disposition”, and in ancient times, literally meant “birth”.

Natura is a Latin translation of the Greek word physis, which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics of plants and animals. Now the concept of nature includes the whole physical universe.

Nature often means the “natural environment” or wilderness–wild animals, rocks, forests, and in general those things that have not been substantially altered by human intervention.

While for several decades the environmental agenda has been to protect nature from people, now there is increasing emphasis on protecting nature to conserve the well-being of people.

Whether one is watching a thrilling thunderstorm or looking up at a mighty tree, the experience of nature is one of awe. One cannot help but marvel at the intricate design of a single leaf, or the roar of a great waterfall.

Time spent in nature is time spent realizing that you don’t know it all and that you never will.

The earth is meant to be enjoyed by its inhabitants. That includes keeping it in the pristine condition in which it was discovered. Everyone has a part of the earth that they relate to the most.

Whether it is a majestic mountain range, a roaring waterfall, a bouquet of flowers, or the calm of the woods, these are places to get to know oneself and build bonds with family.

Research demonstrates how human health can benefit from exposure to green environments, nature, and wildlife in relation to both physical and psychological well-being.

Evidence shows how recovery after gallbladder surgery is faster when patients can see trees and greenery from their beds. Those living near to green space rate their health and well-being higher than those who do not.

There is a positive link between the level of species diversity and the psychological benefit expressed by people who use natural areas in the urban environment.

Exposure to nature is associated with reduced stress and improved work performance, better health, and reduced mortality.

Exercise in green environments creates improvement in self-esteem. Office workers experience lower job stress, higher job satisfaction, and fewer illnesses if they have views of natural areas. Children suffering from stressful situations recover more quickly when they are in areas with access to nature.

Clean air improves the environment and has dramatic beneficial impacts on people’s wellbeing.

We must ensure at any cost that our nature is not harmed but preserved for all future.
